On April 19, 2024, in Washington, D.C., Baker Hughes signed a memorandum of understanding with Iraq-based Halfaya Gas Company, a subsidiary of Raban Al Safina Group, to launch a gas flaring reduction project at the Bin Umar plant in southeastern Iraq. The signing ceremony, attended by Baker Hughes Senior Vice President Alessandro Bresciani, Raban Al Safina Executive Vice President Hussain Saihood, and witnessed by Iraqi Prime Minister H.E. Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani, marked a key step in broader U.S.–Iraq engagement. The MoU sets the groundwork for collaboration using Baker Hughes’ emissions-abatement technologies, including the supply of critical turbomachinery and process equipment, and engineering studies to transform flared gas into dry gas, LPG, and condensate, enhancing Iraq’s energy sustainability and reducing emissions.”
